As reported by PTI, Sitharaman made comments on the introduction of a new data privacy bill today while speaking at the Ideas India Summit hosted by the US-India Business Council.
“We will soon have a new Data Privacy Bill, which will be the product of the consultation process and will address any such concerns most of us have about the Privacy Bill,” she reported. fox.
The Personal Data Protection Bill of 2019 is withdraw by the government in August after a parliamentary panel considered the 2019 bill that proposed numerous amendments. Electronics and Information Technology Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw previously said that the joint committee had proposed 81 amendments to the 99-part Bill. There are more than 12 recommendations and a new bill to be presented in line with a comprehensive regulatory framework.
The bill has raised concerns among big tech companies like Facebook and Google that it may increase their compliance burden and data storage requirements.
