New cars and races make Formula E completely different in 2023
Only four events in WILL remainE RecoveryI can Formula E all-electric race series. And so far, this year, the former World CHamson Sébastien Buemi struggled to find his familiar speed in the Nissan. Now the 13-time race winner is looking for accompanying opportunities Imminent volatility of the E . Formula in 2023.
Buemi is one of the mainstay members of Formula E, he started the sport’s first season in 2014 and has participated in most races since joining the E.Dams team, his first under cover for Renault and now with Nissan.
After 8 years with the team, Buemi was crowned champion in his second season, gaining 13 wins, 16 championships and 14 pole positions. But, up to the present this year His car cannot match his talent.
“To make it simple, we weren’t fast enough,” he said. “We work hard on that, the whole team is working hard on that. But basically we’re not fast enough. Then, when we qualified, we struggled to keep the position.”
This year, Buemi’s best qualifier saw him take fifth place in New York last weekend. During the race, he managed to hold his position until the red flag brings the race to an early end. It was his best result of the year so far.
“It’s clear we’ve been struggling since the last time we built the car,” he said.
Thankfully, he only has two races each in London and Seoul is left to grapple this season. After that, Buemi and the team can turn their full attention to the next generation of Formula E.
“It would be completely different,” he said. “It will be a new racing format, it will be different cars, different tires – completely different.”
The The angular Gen 3 cars will be released next yearand promise a maximum speed of 200 mph and the return to open wheel racing in the series.
The new car is smaller than the upcoming racer and about 120 pounds lighter than the replacement. Gen 3 vehicles will also be allowed to run on a 350 kW (about 470 hp) engine, up from 250 kW (about 335 hp) in Gen 2.
“It’s very difficult to predict what it will be like,” Buemi said. “But at least everyone will start from scratch and hopefully we can get a better job done.”
In addition to the new cars, Formula E will also welcome manufacturers including Maserati and McLaren on the first screen. And, it is also working on bringing the pit-stop back to the sport.
During the first few seasons, pit-stops were used for drivers to switch to a second car so they could go all the way. But for now, the sport is considering adding them to combine strategy and test fast charging in races.
Buemi added: “I am very much looking forward to the introduction of a pit stop again, I think having a pit stop is great.”
There will also be a bunch of changes to next year’s calendar that up and down grid drivers seem to be excited about. While a race in Japan may still be a short timeBuemi says he’s excited to discover new cities and the Formula E tracks to visit.
“I want to go to Cape Town, Vancouver,” Buemi said. “It’s great to be back in Jakarta, and India [next year]. I am looking forward to it.
“Clearly India has been confirmed, other countries have not. But let’s wait and see. I love discovering new cities and new roads. ”
And it is these changes that Formula E is able to implement the calendar, race weekend and cars that Buemi believes will draw fans back even more.
“I think Formula E has changed and Challenge the status quo with attack mode, fan boost, swap cars,” he said. “A lot of this has not been done before.
“Going from two cars to one is a big change for Formula E. Now the fact that pit stops and recharges the batteries will be a big change.”
