New BMW 1 Series facelift coming with hot M135i

Upgraded version of the third generation BMW 1 Series is in development and these latest images give us the best look at the modified premium hatch. We could also see a hot M135i update on the way to match the new updates CHEAP Honda Civic and Audi S3.

In its midlife update, By BMW The premium hatch will receive a suite of interior and exterior tweaks. Our latest batch of spy images reveals even more of the past, showing M135i The hot hatch will have a new quad exhaust, a wider grille, more aligned with the new 2 Series, and new front and rear bumpers.

Larger air intakes at the front could mean the M135i requires additional cooling for its turbocharger system – likely the result of using a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine , capacity 301 horsepower more. The powertrain will remain the same, with power sent to all four wheels.

We also caught the 1 Series’ standard facelift test. The new front grille will be the biggest design change, as will the incorporation of new bumpers around and tweaked headlights and taillights.

Inside the new 1 Series, we can already see changes from the current car’s technology. We’ll almost certainly get the same 12.3-inch digital driving display and 10.25-inch touchscreen taken from the new 2 Series. The iDrive rotary controller will be phased out in favor of a touchscreen-only display as BMW plans to reserve the feature for its larger models. The gear lever has also been shrunk from a regular bar to a small knob.

Present BMW 1 Series sits on the same UKL2 platform as the second-generation X1 SUV – recently replaced by a X1 third generation. We won’t see an all-electric Series 1, with BMW positioning the upcoming iX1 as the company’s smallest EV.

It is safe to say that the 1 Series facelift will take some form hybrid technology for the first time, however. The 1 Series range is expandable to include plug-in hybrid engine option-based setup that supports 10kWh battery on the go X1. This will likely offer more than the old X1’s electric-only 30-mile range thanks to the 1 Series’ smaller ratios and better aerodynamics.

These hybrid options will complement a number of three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines in the new 1 Series engine range when the car goes on sale in 2023.
