New 2023 Ford Transit electric van plan revealed


Ford announced plans to bring four new electric vans to the UK by 2024, with next year’s all-new Transit Custom leading the line, alongside the Tourneo Custom, Transit Courier, Tourneo Courier.

The Medium sized custom van will be available with mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure-electric diesel powertrains. Like the current Transit Custom, the new model will be built by Ford Otosan in Turkey and can use the same MEB platform found in the new model. Additionally, Ford is targeting zero emissions for all vehicle sales and carbon neutrality across facilities, logistics and suppliers in Europe by 2035.

However, Ford is aware that some customers won’t be able to go straight from combustion to electrification right away, which is why the next Transit Custom will offer a variety of powertrain options. That means the future of Ford’s diesel engine plant in Dagenham, Essex, is at least assured in the medium term, while the gearbox will continue to be built in Cologne before being shipped to Turkey. for final assembly.

Along with the arrival of electric powertrain, the new Transit Custom will feature Ford’s latest connected services, developed with support from Ford customers across Europe. Transit Custom is currently available with 3G connectivity, while further enhancements to FordPass Pro and Ford Fleet Management vehicle management software are expected to roll out alongside the new model.
