Netflix explains how it will prevent account password sharing

Netflix has announced that it will begin preventing password sharing in the first quarter of this year. The OTT company announced its quarterly earnings last week. The modification has been tested in several countries since the streaming giant claimed that users sharing their Netflix accounts reduces the company’s revenue. The company expressed its intention to prevent password sharing last year. Netflix has now specified how it intends to help prevent users from sharing their account passwords.

According to one parcel on the Netflix FAQ page, a Netflix Now only people living in a household can access the account, and people who don’t live at the same address as the primary account holder “will need to use their own account to watch Netflix.”

Sharing passwords with users outside of the subscriber’s household will become increasingly complicated, and it’s likely to incur an additional cost to share an account across different locations.

If a new device is linked to the primary account in a separate location, Netflix will ask for a 4-digit temporary verification code within 15 minutes of requesting access. Access to a device in another location will be granted continuously for seven days.

According to the company, users traveling with their primary device should have no trouble accessing Netflix in other locations. To ensure smooth Netflix access, users must connect to Wi-Fi from their primary location at least once every 31 days.

Netflix more a new feature last year called “Profile Transfer” to address account password sharing. This feature allows users who currently share accounts to maintain personalized recommendations, viewing history, My Lists, saved games, and other settings as they create their own Netflix accounts .

Each plan specifies how many devices can access Netflix simultaneously, and as long as they’re owned by members of the same household, it shouldn’t affect your viewing experience. Netflix added that it verifies devices in a household by tracking “IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity from devices signed in to your Netflix account.”
