Netflix Announces The Witcher Season 4, But Henry Cavill Won’t Return
While we wait patiently The Witcher season 3there’s some good news and some possible bad news for fans of the fantasy series: Netflix has refreshed the show for a fourth season, but star Henry Cavill won’t be returning as Geralt of Rivia.
Follow Netflix Announcement (opens in a new tab), Liam Hemsworth – perhaps best known for his role as Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games franchise – will join the cast. That cast change is the only information we have about season 4 at the moment.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventure, and alas, I’ll lay down my medals and swords for Season 4,” Departing Cavill said in a statement. Father. “Instead, the wonderful Liam Hemsworth will put on the mantle of the White Wolf.”
“As with the greatest literary figures, I hand the torch with reverence for the time it took to portray Geralt and the enthusiasm to see Liam take on the most intriguing and nuanced role of the man. Liam , sir, this character has a great depth to him, loves to dive and see what you can find.”
Hemsworth added: “As a Witcher fan, I’m on the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. “Henry Cavill is an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he gave me the reins and allowed me to wield the White Wolf’s sword for the next chapter of his adventure.”
“Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for many years and am inspired by what you’ve brought to this beloved character. I might have some big boots to fill, but I really do. The excitement of stepping into the world of The Witcher.”
Wait and see
Of course, you can find different reactions to the news on social media, but it’s probably best to reserve judgment until season 4 actually comes out – though it’s fair to say. said Cavill has performed very well and will be difficult to replace.
In an ideal world, casting would be fixed, but there’s no reason Hemsworth couldn’t impress as Geralt. We’ve been seeing deliberate changes to HBO’s casting lately Dragon’s House – another epic fantasy series that has developed a loyal fan base – shows that they can work if done right.
Then, of course, Doctor Who, recently said goodbye for Jodie Whittaker as its main star. The difference here is the cast changes built into the show’s story, but again proof that they don’t have to kill the momentum of a series.
We’ll have to wait a while to see how Hemsworth does. Perhaps filming has yet to begin in The Witcher season 4, and there’s no indication it will get underway any time soon. We’re looking at the earliest 2024 release.
Netflix will hope the change from Cavill to Hemsworth won’t affect the popularity of the show, one of the series’ biggest successes. Spin-off The Witcher: Blood Origin will premiere on Christmas Day and will keep fans going until season 3 drops at some point next year.
What we don’t get from Netflix is any reason for the change. Given Cavill has just revealed that he’s back as Superman in another movie, maybe he just doesn’t have time for The Witcher anymore – or maybe he just feels the need to get away from the Continent for a while.
