Netanyahu defends Israel at the United Nations; says he came ‘to set a record’
“I decided to come here to speak for my people, to speak for my country and to speak for the truth,” he said, emphasizing that Israel yearns for peace.
“We face barbaric enemies who seek to destroy us and we must defend ourselves against these barbaric murderers, [who] seeks not only to destroy us but to destroy our common civilization and return us all to the dark ages of tyranny and terror.”
He recalled his speech at last year’s general debate, when he declared that Israel faces the same timeless choice that Moses posed before its people thousands of years ago, “ that our actions will determine whether we will leave future generations a blessing or a curse. ”
“And that is the choice we face today,” he emphasized, citing “the curse of unrelenting Iranian aggression or the blessing of historic Arab reconciliation and the Jews”.
In the days that followed, that “luck” came in the form of a normalization agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel, “but then came the curse of October 7” when thousands of Hamas terrorists were backed by Iran. Conflict broke out into Israel, causing “unimaginable atrocities”. ”, including the brutal murder of 1,200 people, including children; sexual violence against women; and kidnapped 251 people from different countries.
