NeNe Leakes Suing Bravo, NBCUniversal On Racist Claims On ‘RHOA’ – Hollywood Life
Before The Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes withdrew the discrimination lawsuit against Bravo and Andy Cohen, originally filed in April. The lawsuit filed in federal court in Atlanta says that NeNe has complained to executives about racist remarks for years from her co-star, Needle Zolciak–Biermann, but only NeNe suffered the consequences. While NBCUniversal, Bravo, the production companies True Entertainment and Truly Original, executives from the companies and Real housewives Executive producer Andy Cohen was named as the defendant, Kim Zolciak-Biermann was not.
“NBC, Bravo and True promote a corporate and workplace culture in which racist and inappropriate behavior is tolerated – if not, encouraged,” the lawsuit says.
HollywoodLife contacted representatives of the defendants and Kim Zolciak-Biermann, but did not receive any response.
NeNe, 54, whose legal name is Linnethia Monique Leakes, spent ten seasons as one of the main stars on RHOA from 2008 to 2020. In her suit, NeNe said that the cast had planned to go to a barbecue in the first season, and Kim responded to the event with “effective words: ‘I don’t want to sit around with NeNe and eat chicken.”
The suit also claims that in 2012 – during the show’s fifth season – Kim made “racist and stereotypical” remarks about Kandi Burruss‘ House. The lawsuit claims Kim calls Kandi’s neighborhood a “slum” before making an offensive comment about whether Kandi needs a swimming pool, perpetuating racial stereotypes.
