NCERT set to get ‘deemed to be university’ status | India News

NEW DELHI: National Council for Research in Education and Training (NCERT) will soon be a ‘regarded university’ in ‘De Novo‘ Category. The decision was made on Monday at the council’s executive committee meeting chaired by education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
University is considered De-Novo is an organization that can apply to UGC to establish a new institution to be considered a university that will undertake learning and research in unique and emerging areas of knowledge that are not offered by any existing institution.
According to the meeting’s agenda notes, the pinnacle organization for school educationNCERT conducts various activities and programs, including educational research and innovation, curriculum development and development of textual and teaching-learning materials, among others.
Degree agencies for graduate and graduate programs offered by NCERT’s regional educational institutes are affiliated with various state universities and a central university.
“Currently, NCERT with its existing infrastructure and study programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate and research levels is operating on par with the country’s university system. Granting NCERT deemed university equivalent status under the De Novo category will enhance academic activity,” the agenda note states.
NCERT was founded in 1961 under the Social Act by the government to assist and advise in matters of school education.
