NCAA: Return of key players boosts Letran win over San Sebastian
MANILA, Philippines — Letran got a boost with the return of vital gear against San Sebastian, 77-69, during the NCAA Season 98 men’s basketball tournament at San Juan Arena on Wednesday.
The Knights welcomed back Brent Paraiso and Louie Sangalang from a two-match suspension and a two-match skate stop.
“Obviously we missed them, especially in the last game. They are two of the remaining veterans we have and when they leave, you can see in the last two games we didn’t have a starting spot,” said Letran head coach Bonnie Tan.
Paraiso and Sangalang launched timely dunks in the fourth round, leaving Stags in a difficult position.
With the Knights leading by just three goals, Sangalang scored while Kurt Reyson scored three to take the game away, 75-67.
Paraiso also helped quell San Sebastian’s comeback attempt with triple timeliness. He finished with 10 points.
King Caralipio led Letran with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Sangalang collected 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks as Letran improved to 4-3. Fran Yu also had an all-around game with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists.
Raymart Escobido’s 18 points and Romel Calahat’s 17 points passed San Sebastian, dropping to 2-4.
