MANILA, Philippines — The NCAA has decided to suspend John Amores indefinitely to “help save his career.”

According to Fr. Vic Calvo, a member of the league’s executive committee, the board decided not to give Amores a lifetime ban after going on a rampage during a match against St. Benilde to see if he can improve his attitude.

“There’s a possibility [of a comeback] but I don’t think in the near future. It will depend on what interventions the JRU will do with the child. Somehow, somehow, we wanted to give him a little loophole to save his career,” Calvo said in Filipino.

“We are not saying this is it, but we are still open to due process. He has the right to appeal. He has all the rights and privileges because this is a democratic association and we respect that right,” he added.

Amores has been suspended indefinitely from all events of the tournament following the deliberate act of touching and pointing a finger at the referee, disrespecting JRU representative Paul Supan and court officials, accusing Benilde’s bench, made provocative gestures that caused a brawl and punched Mark Sangco, Jimboy Pasturan, Taine Davis and Migs Oczon.

However, Calvo reiterated that Mancom understands what the striker did and does not tolerate his every move.

“Violence has no place in the NCAA. Mancom condemns and will not tolerate any act of violence that endangers our athletes, participating official supporters, and the public. Everyone’s safety is our top concern,” said representative Letran.

Heavy Bombers will play San Sebastian minus 12 players on Friday.
