MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian coach Egay Macaraya expressed displeasure about the main catch after he was thrown during the Stags’ crucial clash with the College of St. Benilde on Tuesday.

Macaraya committed two technical fouls and was sent off in the second half after asking for a review of a play in which Benilde’s Carlo Lim was fouled on the head with four seconds left before halftime.

“It’s frustrating what happened. I want to justify my side, this is the second time the umpire is wrong in the coach challenge. They had instructions and when we had a big game with San Beda we did a challenge for eight seconds so we asked for a challenge and they said it was not allowed, like like today,” Macaraya, who suffered a double hit after The Stags went on to lose, 83-78, closing the door for their last four hopes.

In the game against San Beda last November 6, San Sebastian also lost by 82-79.

Macaraya said he intends to file a formal complaint against the referees even though his team is out of contention.

“For us, we wanted to file a complaint, but then again the game was made. Who’s sorry, I don’t care,” Macaraya said.

“Mancom (the NCAA governing body) said, if there is a complaint, we must file a formal complaint. This is the second time so we may have to file because we have proof,” he added.

Despite San Sebastian’s failure to make it to the Finals, Macaraya found a silver lining with the arrival of rookie Rhinwil Yambing.

“This is not a miracle but Yambing has a lot of potential. I’ve seen him play and he’s phenomenal. We’ve seen that and I know he still has to grow up and put on a little bit of weight,” he said.

Yambing achieved a season-high 36 points built on 11 trios on Friday in a 92-74 win over Jose Rizal University.

However, the striker played only four minutes and 30 seconds against CSB after he left the game early with a cut above his right eye. He’s suspected for the remaining three games of the Golden Stags.
