NCAA: Fran Yu’s all-around play for Letran leads to Player of Week honors

MANILA, Philippines — Letran’s Fran Yu has been named the NCAA Player of the Week after moving the defending champion Knights to the upper end of the rankings.
With help from Yu, the Knights clinched a six-fight victory to secure second place solo after an unstable start, giving the defender the weekly plum awarded by the Collegiate Press Corps. donate.
This week, the veteran coach led Letran to 3 consecutive wins, reaching a target of 12.67 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 0.3 blocks per game.
On Sunday, the Knights rely on Yu’s 19 points — all from the second half of the game — to won over San Sebastian, 69-50.
However, the two-time NCAA champion remain focused on the team’s bid for a three peat in addition to the MVP award of the season.
“As a player, I don’t focus on my individual game. I’m not hoping for such awards, it’s just blessings. What we really want is triple peat,” he said.
Yu was selected as the tournament’s sixth prisoner after teammate Brent Paraiso, John Abis of Perpetual Help, Will Gozum and Miggy Corteza of St. Benilde, presented by the main sponsors Philippine Sports Commission and San Miguel Corporation.
