NCAA: CSB coach Charles Tiu wants better performance from returning Migs Oczon

MANILA, Philippines — College of St. Benilde welcomed back one of its key cogs in Migs Oczon on Saturday ahead of Emilio Aguinaldo College.

Blazers head coach Charles Tiu was pleased to have Oczon back but he was not pleased with his keeper’s performance.

“He can’t shoot. I’m not happy with the way he plays. He has a lot of open looks that I know he can create. He just needs to take shots,” Tiu said of Oczon, who missed the last two CSB games. against Letran and Arellano after feeling “under the weather.”

Oczon scored the top 14 to help Saint Benilde of the EAC, 73-61, but he only shot 30.8% from the field, sinking only four of his 13 shots.

Tiu said Oczon was ready to play in the Blazers’ final game against Arellano but was forced to sit out due to the league’s health and safety regulations.

Despite Oczon’s difficulty shooting, Tiu will continue to rely on the sharpshooter to deliver for the Blazers, who currently top the standings with a 5-1 record.

“For me, we always trust our players. They can shoot as many times as they like as long as it looks good, we’ll give them that.”

Migs Corteza, who also had a big game for Benilde, praised Oczon and said they missed his impact on the offense.

“I really think Migs will be of great help to our team, especially in attack. He is our mainstay when it comes to shooting. Coach Charles believes he can also contribute on the defensive side,” he said after dropping 14 points and five rebounds.

“I feel his defense is overshadowed by his scoring ability but Migs Oczon can also defend as a two-lane player. He just doesn’t get the credit he deserves every game,” he added.
