NCAA: Aggressive Lyceum trips EAC to return to winning ways

MANILA, Philippines — A hungry Lyceum scored a comeback goal against Emilio Aguinaldo College, 79-73, in the second round of the NCAA Season 98 men’s basketball tournament at San Juan Arena on Wednesday.

“I was expecting them to be aggressive after our loss but to withdraw like that against this team, I didn’t expect it. The way they played, they showed me that they really want to come back,” said coach Gilbert Malabanan.

The Lyceum had a very good lead going into the second half as McLaude Guadaña settled himself and began a personal 9-2 win to give the Pirates the biggest advantage, 59-40. Guadaña finished with 19 points and two steals.

Malabanan’s troops accelerated their attack as they scored 17 points in the breakout while the Generals, who moved down to cards 1-10, had only eight points.

Enoch Valdez and Vince Cunanan help Lyceum deal 10 points each. Valdez also registered six rebounds.

Nat Cosejo, This week’s NCAA Player of the Week continued to perform well with 26 markers, six goals and four assists in an undefeated effort. Mac Balowa and JP Maguliano also finished with their 12 names for champions.
