Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns will be sidelined indefinitely due to a strain on his right calf muscle.
Towns, 27, injured his leg in the middle of the third quarter of Losing Minnesota’s 142-127 Street on Monday to the Washington Wizards. The team said magnetic resonance imaging confirmed muscle tension in the calf and Towns’ condition would be reevaluated in “several weeks”.
ESPN reports that Towns will be absent for four to six weeks.
In 21 games (all starting) this season, Towns is averaging 20.8 points on 50.5% shots, along with 8.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.
Selected the first overall of the 2015 NBA Draft, Towns is in its eighth season with Minnesota. He has a career average of 23.1 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 503 games (all starts).
The Timberwolves start three home games on Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies.
