Nikola Jokic scored 26 points when he was involved in a double and the Denver Nuggets recovered from the embarrassment in the opening game with a 128-123 win over the Golden State Warriors on Friday night in San Francisco.

Jokic was also in high form for the game with 12 rebounds and 10 assists, helping the Nuggets get the right goal against a Warriors team that knocked Denver out of the Western Conference knockouts in the first round last April. .

Stephen Curry gave the Warriors the highest 34 points in the game, which beat the Los Angeles Lakers on Opening night before being scored by the Nuggets 70 points in the first half three nights later.

Eager to beat the Utah Jazz 123-102 right behind them, the Nuggets made eight of 14 3-point attempts in the first half. Denver soon trailed the defending champions, leading by 20 points and 70-52 at the break.

Golden State came back in 124-123 after a change by Jordan Poole with 14.7 seconds remaining. However, Jokic’s 10th assist cost Bruce Brown a life 1.7 seconds later, and the Nuggets survived Klay Thompson’s missed 3-point effort with 9.3 seconds to be able to finish.

Jokic made it through his big night and increased his victory by sinking two free throws to just 6.6 seconds.

Starting in place of Jamal Murray, who was given the night off last round, Brown contributed 20 points to the win over Denver. The starters are Michael Porter Jr. (17), Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (17) and Aaron Gordon (10) also scored twice, as did subs Bones Hyland (14) and Jeff Green (10).

The Nuggets finished 53.5% off the field and leveled with the Warriors in their favorite 3-point match, with each team generating 15 points despite Golden State having to put in 10 more attempts.

After half-time 1 to 5 from outside the arc, Curry won 5 to 11 on 3-point efforts, accounting for almost half of his total.

Andrew Wiggins got the team’s highest 23 points and eight rebounds, while Thompson added 16 points. Draymond Green scored 13 points to add to the team’s nine assists, and James Wiseman added 11 points from the bench.
