NBA: Norman Powell scores 22 in 4th, Clippers overtake Blazers

Substitute Norman Powell scored 22 of his season-high 32 points in the fourth quarter to help the injury-ravaged Los Angeles Clippers win 118-112 over the Portland Trail Blazers home team. on Tuesday night.

Reggie Jackson scored 24 points and 12 assists and Robert Covington scored 15 as the Clippers won for the fifth time in their past seven games.

Ivica Zubac contributed 12 points and 13 bounces and Terance Mann had 11 for Los Angeles, 18 points behind in the third quarter.

Anfernee Simons reached his career high of 9 3-pointers when scoring 37 points for Portland. Jerami Grant scored 32 points before fouling the Trail Blazers, which had lost for the fifth time in six games.

Jusuf Nurkic scored 13 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and Justise Winslow had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Portland.

Former Trail Blazers Powell and Nicolas Batum played key roles in the fourth quarter.

Batum knocked out a trey to give the Clippers a 111-110 lead with 2:37 remaining, and Portland was never led again. Batum also parried Simons’ shot with 31.3 seconds left when Los Angeles took a three lead.

The Clippers played without Kawhi Leonard (ankle), Paul George (hamstring), John Wall (knee) and Luke Kennard (calf).

Damian Lillard (calf) remains sidelined for Portland.

The Trail Blazers hit 46.7% from the field, including 17 of 35 (48.6%) from behind the arc.

Los Angeles takes 46.1% of its shots and is 13 out of 31 (41.9%) from the 3-point range.

Grant scored seven points in 53 seconds to give Portland a 72-57 lead with 8:59 remaining in the third inning.

Simons buried two treys in 26 seconds to give Portland a 91-73 lead at 3:13 to advance in the third inning.

The Clippers controlled the rest of the contest and closed the half 11-4 to take a 95-82 lead into the final stanza.

Los Angeles remained hot in the fourth inning and Powell scored eight points in a 12-0 outburst, bringing the score to 98 with 7:30 left.

Powell’s three-point play gave the Clippers a 101-100 lead with six minutes left.

Simons hit the ninth 3-pointer to give Portland a 108-104 lead with 4:44 remaining.

Powell’s 3-point shot at 3:37 was 108, and Los Angeles went on to complete a comeback victory.

Simons scored 19 points in the first half with a 7/8 shot and the Trail Blazers led 61-53 after halftime. Covington and Mann each scored 11 goals in the half for the Clippers.
