NBA: Nets coach Jacque Vaughn signs multi-year extension
The Brooklyn Nets and head coach Jacque Vaughn agreed to a multi-year contract extension on Tuesday.
Vaughn became acting head coach on November 1 after Steve Nash was fired following a 2-5 loss. Vaughn assumed the position of full-time coach on November 9.
“Jacque has made an immediate and massive impact on our entire organization since taking over as head coach earlier this season,” said Sean Marks, general manager of Nets. “On the field, he has clearly demonstrated his leadership through his ability to connect and communicate at a very high level while displaying a great instinct for the game. As a person, they couldn’t be better than Jacque. His personality is impeccable, and there is no better representation of our team and our district. We are delighted to have Jacque lead the Nets for many years to come.”
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Since Vaughn started attacking, the Nets have had the fifth-best record in the league at 32-19, just behind the Boston Celtics (38-15), Denver Nuggets (37-15), Philadelphia 76ers (34-34). 15) and Milwaukee Bucks (35-17).
Vaughn, 48, was named Coach of the Month at the Eastern Conference in December after leading Brooklyn to a 12-1 record.
After the All-Star break, the Nets hold the No. 5 spot in the East. However, Vaughn and his teammates will face new challenges following the recent departures of longtime All-Stars Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns) and Kyrie Irving (Dallas Mavericks).
