NBA: Mavericks bury 20 3-pointers, even series with Suns

Luka Doncic had a brace and Dorian Finney-Smith led a 3-point shootout as hosts Dallas Mavericks beat away Phoenix Suns 111-101 on Sunday to even their Western Conference semi-final series by a margin. number 2-2.

Doncic had 26 points and 11 assists and Finney-Smith scored 24, forming 8 of 12 3-pointers as the Mavericks finished 20/44 from outside the arc. Jalen Brunson scored 18, Davis Bertans 12, Maxi Kleber 11 and Spencer Dinwiddie 10.

Devin Booker scored 35 points, Jae Crowder had 15, Deandre Ayton added 14 and 11 rebounds and Cameron Johnson scored 11 to lead the Suns, who made 9 of 25 3-pointers.

Keeper Chris Paul played just 23 minutes, finishing with 5 points and 7 assists before fouling in the 8:58th minute left.

Game 5 will take place Tuesday night in Phoenix.

The Mavericks led 87-78 when Paul returned to the game with five fouls and 10:28 remaining. The score was still eight when Paul fouled a minute and a half later.

Mikal Bridges’ basket got Phoenix within six points before Finney-Smith hit three straight pointers to complete a 8-0 lap that gave Dallas a 97-83 lead midway through the fourth inning.

Dallas took a seven-point lead when Paul came on from the bench after a fifth foul with 9:32 remaining in the third inning. Immediately following Paul’s departure, the Mavericks scored seven straight points to lead 75-63.

Booker scored six points to give Phoenix the lead to four, but Dallas scored the last five to push the score to 87-78 late in the half.

Finney-Smith and Bertans each hit two 3-pointers as the Mavericks turned a 19-13 lead into a 37-25 advantage late in the first half.

Bertans made 3 pointers in a row and Dinwiddie scored another as they led 46-29.

Crowder made 3 pointers in a row and Paul scored another five as Phoenix closed in 54-48.

Doncic took seven free throws as Dallas rebuilt a 68-56 lead after halftime. His last two free throws came after Paul fouled his fourth with a second left.
