NBA: LeBron James scores 48 points, Lakers hold off Rockets
LeBron James scored a top 48 of the season, the fifth time he’s scored at least 35 in his past seven games, and the Los Angeles Lakers ended a three-game losing streak with a 140-132 win over Houston. Rockets on Monday.
Russell Westbrook scored 24 and Kendrick Nunn added 15 as the Lakers won for the first time since their five-game winning streak ended on January 9. Alperen Sengun had 33 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists and Jalen Green added 23 points for the Rockets, which have seen their worst losing streak of the season stretch to 11 games. . Houston has lost 16 of its last 17 games.
Eric Gordon scored 19 points for the Rockets, who most recently won a game on December 26.
The Lakers led 37-35 after one inning and were up 73-61 going into halftime after scoring 54.2% in the first half. Los Angeles had the highest score in the first half of the season and then led 102-98 after three quarters.
The score of 13-4 opening the fourth half pushed the Lakers’ advantage to 13 points with 9:24 left. However, the 9-0 score gave Houston a 119-116 lead with the remaining score of 5:06 after a pitch by Kenyon Martin Jr.

Patrick Beverley scored 11 points for the Lakers after missing the previous two games because of a non-COVID illness.
Martin scored 17 points and Jabari Smith Jr. there are 14 points for the Rockets.
Green and Jae’Sean Tate (seven points) are both back in action for the Rockets after they were suspended for Sunday’s Houston game against the Los Angeles Clippers. The penalties were to leave the bench area in an on-field brawl on Friday against the Sacramento Kings.
