NBA: Kyrie Irving’s buzzer-beating 3 lifts Nets over Raptors

Kyrie Irving hit a 3-pointer tiebreak to the whistle and the Brooklyn Nets visitors beat the Toronto Raptors 119-116 on Friday night.

Irving finished with 32 points and Kevin Durant added 28 points for the Nets, who won 5 games in a row and 9/10.

“Once you have that ball in your hand at the end of the game, it’s what you dream of,” Irving said.

Yuta Watanabe had 17 points for the Nets, who overcame a four-season streak with the Raptors. Nic Claxton had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Ben Simmons and . TJ Warren used to give 10 points.

Fred VanVleet has scored 39 points for the Raptors, who have lost 4 games in a row and 5/6 games. Scottie Barnes has 26 points, Pascal Siakam has 17 and Malachi Flynn has 13.

The Nets, which took an 18-point lead in the second quarter, took a four-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Irving’s diver took the lead by eight with a score of 6:12. Siakam made a substitution to shorten the deficit to three to 4:27 and VanVleet tied it with a 3-pointer at 3:06 to play.

The Nets took a three-point lead at 1:52 to continue Irving’s 11-yard shot. Barnes made two free throws, taking the lead with one. With 36.1 seconds left, Barnes gave Toronto a one-point lead after a hook. Watanabe made a 3-pointer to give Brooklyn the lead with 15 seconds remaining. Seven seconds later, Barnes made two free throws to equalize at 116.

Toronto led 29-19 after one inning.

Chris Boucher’s steal set up 3 points for Siakam and Toronto led 18 with 1:17 remaining in the second half. The Nets scored the last eight points of the first half, taking the lead 62-52.

The Nets scored the first six points of the third quarter. Claxton took two free throws to shorten the lead to 7:37 in the third inning. Durant’s jump gave Brooklyn a one-point lead with 3:25 remaining. Claxton’s theft resulted in Watanabe’s disqualification and Brooklyn’s three-point lead. The Nets lead 88-84 after three quarters.

Gary Trent Jr. (quadriceps) was a late scratch for Toronto and OG Anunoby (hips) missed his third straight game.

Brooklyn’s Patty Mills (without COVID) did not compete.
