NBA: Julius Randle leads the way as Knicks stave off Raptors

Julius Randle had 32 points and 11 rebounds and the New York Knicks visitors held off the Toronto Raptors rally to a 112-108 win on Friday night.

Jalen Brunson added 26 points and 8 assists for the Knicks, which went on to win 4 in a row.

Quentin Grimes scored 16 points for New York, Immanuel Quickley scored 13 and Mitchell Robinson had 10 points and 16 rebounds.

Fred VanVleet scored 28 points for the Raptors, who lost their first two games in six home games. Gary Trent Jr. scored 27 more points, Pascal Siakam had 18 points and 13 rebounds and OG Anunoby scored 13 points.

The Knicks scored the first 8 points of the fourth half to lead 11 points, the score 89-78.

Scottie Barnes scored four straight points to take the lead down to seven with 9:22 remaining in the fourth inning. Miles McBride answered with two straight 3-pointers.

The lead was 16 thanks to Brunson’s jump with 4:03 to play. Siakam hit a 3-pointer in the corner with 49 seconds remaining, reducing the gap to four. Randle took one of the two free throws, but Trent took three, giving him a two-goal lead. Brunson made a jump and free throw with 22 seconds left.

The Knicks lead 30-26 after 1/4, 19 points behind Randle.

The Knicks opened the second half with a score of 11-2. Brunson hit two 3-pointers in a row to make it 17 with 5:27 left in the half. Chris Boucher scored the last six points of the first half, giving New York a 57–47 lead.

Randle had 22 points in the first half as the Knicks scored 52.4% (22 to 42) in the half.

Toronto hit 40.5% (17 to 42) in the first half, with VanVleet and Trent each having 11 points.

Toronto started the third quarter with a 12-4 gain. Christian Koloko’s pitch took the lead with 3:06 to play in the third inning. Randle and Brunson responded with 3 points in a row. VanVleet scored the next six points to take the lead down to one point. Quickley finished the third round with two free throws giving New York an 81-78 lead,

New York doesn’t have RJ Barrett (torn finger).
