NBA: Julius Randle, Knicks manhandle Pistons
Julius Randle racked up a season-high 36 points in just three quarters, and the visiting New York Knicks beat the Detroit Pistons 140-110 on Tuesday night.
Randle added seven bounces and five assists in 31 minutes. Quentin Grimes, RJ Barrett and Jalen Brunson each had 16 points while Immanuel Quickley scored 15 for New York, who won only for the second time in six games.
Isaiah Stewart leads the Pistons with 19 points, including five career-best three-pointers. Stewart had missed the previous seven games due to a toe injury.
Bojan Bogdanovic and Marvin Bagley III each have 13 points, Jalen Duren each get 12 points and Killian Hayes, Cory Joseph and Saddiq Bey each add 11 points.
The Knicks shot from distance 56.2%, while the Pistons shot 50.6%. New York scored 68 points in the game and overcame Detroit with a score of 51-30.

New York recorded its third straight win over Detroit this season. The first two meetings took place at the Knicks’ home ground.
Randle had 17 points in the first quarter, including five 3s, as the Knicks took a 40-32 lead. Teams combined to make 13 in the first 12 minutes.
The Pistons took the sole lead as they opened the second half with a 13-4 scoreline capped by a Duren dunk. With three minutes remaining, New York took a double-digit 61-51 lead after Randle knocked out a 2-pointer.
Barrett scored in the last minute of the half to give the Knicks a 16-point advantage. The away team took a 70-56 lead at the break after Randle’s 26 points. Bogdanovic led the Pistons with 13 points in the first half.
In the second minute of the second half, Randle lunged at Stewart and the Pistons big man responded by shoving him. Stewart received a technical penalty and Brunson took the free throw, giving his team a 78-59 lead.
A Randle save pushed the Knicks’ advantage past 20 points.
Grimes converted the three-point play after one inning of the Pistons to make it 90-65 midway through.
Another Randle basket a few minutes later lifted New York’s advantage to 30 points.
The Knicks led 108-77 in the fourth half.
