NBA: Hornets’ LaMelo Ball sprains ankle in preseason game
Charlotte Hornets said star guard LaMelo Ball sprained his left ankle in the third quarter of Monday night’s pre-season loss to the visiting Washington Wizards.
Ball was driving into the paint and stomping on Washington’s Anthony Gill’s foot. He fell to the floor in pain and lay down for a few minutes, but he managed to stay in the game to take two free throws before stepping off the court under his own strength.
The Hornets had no further updates on Ball, who averaged 20.1 points, 7.6 assists and 6.7 rebounds last season.
Ball’s was one of three notable injuries in the game. Charlotte center Mason Plumlee sprained her left foot.
At the end of the Wizards, striker Kristaps Porzingis missed with a 1:03 left in the first half after hitting a smack in the paint. He was also diagnosed with a sprained left ankle, but Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr described it as “just a quick ankle sprain” and “nothing serious” after the game. fight.
