NBA: Grizzlies breeze past Pistons, win fifth straight

Jaren Jackson Jr. led an equalizing attack with 20 points as hosts Memphis Grizzlies extended their all-win streak to five games by beating the Detroit Pistons 114-103 on Friday night.

Brandon Clarke has 17 points and 7 bounces and Dillon Brooks offers 16. Ja Morant, one of the league’s top 10 scorers, was kept to 15 points but also contributed 12 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

Tyus Jones had 10 points, 7 assists and 6 assists while Steven Adams added 10 points, 8 assists and 4 assists.

Adams was helped off the field at 5:33 when he sprained his right ankle while taking a rebound.

Bojan Bogdanovic leads seven Pistons with a double figure with 19 points. Marvin Bagley III has 14 points and Isaiah Stewart and Kevin Knox each have 13 points. Jalen Duren added a brace in the first game of his career with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Jackson and Brooks each had 12 points in the first half as Memphis created a 61-53 advantage at halftime. Detroit was plagued by poor perimeter shooting – it made 5 out of 21 3-pointers.

Morant opened the second half with a steal and gave up. Morant made an individual match 6-0 with two saves and two free throws to give his club a 73-58 lead.

Bogdanovic knocked out a 3-pointer with 6:47 left in the inning to drag Detroit within 12 points.

Pistons cannot advance any further. Santi Aldama’s treble with three minutes left in the game gave Memphis a 91-74 lead. Jones soon made a 20-point game with a strike. The Grizzlies led 98-78 in the fourth inning.

Clarke started the inning by converting an alley pass from Jones. Stewart made his second three-pointer of the half with 7:21 remaining to take the Grizzlies’ lead 105-89.

Detroit pulled 12 with 111-99 on Rodney McGruder’s two free throws with 3:30 remaining. Jaden Ivey made a substitution with two minutes left to shorten the Pistons’ deficit to 11 but they couldn’t get any closer.
