NBA: Draymond Green’s Flagrant 2 stands
The NBA said Monday that Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green’s 2nd foul will have an effect.
Green was sent off with 1:18 remaining in the first half of Sunday’s 1 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. With the league dropping fouls, Green now has two points clear. He will be suspended for one game if he reaches four points.
Playback videos show Green making contact with Brandon Clarke’s head while swiping down with his arm, and he grabbed Clarke’s collar during the process.
Crew chief Kane Fitzgerald told a pool reporter the foul was considered Flagger 2 and not Flagger 1 because “overall contact was deemed unnecessary and excessive.” Fitzgerald cited both the contact with Clarke’s face and “the tugging and throwing of a shirt to a vulnerable player in the air.”
According to ESPN Stats & Information, this is the first time in Green’s post-season career. It was the 130th playoff of his career.
After the match, Green said he believes he was disqualified because of his history rather than the match itself.
“I think tonight was probably something more remarkable than a rough foul,” said Green, who finished with six points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Warriors won 117-116. Game 2 of the Western Conference semi-final series takes place Tuesday night in Memphis.
