NASA and Hideo Kojima have collaborated on a project, and the partnership in itself is not unusual. Kojima Productions’ the mascot, after all, is a character called Ludens, who wears a spacesuit that works in real life and is meant to be an astronaut exploring digital space. No, in fact they collaborated on one watch. It’s not even a smartwatch – it’s an actual wristwatch called Space Ludens which is based on the game developer’s mascot.
This watch was designed and will be sold by creative studio and watch maker Anicorn, which has previously worked with NASA on watches and other merchandise. Like IGN note, it’s based on the visual style of Ludens’ space suit, with the gray/silver colorway and gold accents and screws. The NASA logo adorns its watch face, along with the words “Additional Creative Activity Suit”. Below, the Kojima Productions logo is embossed on the transparent case showing the watch’s gears.
While a watch most likely isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Kojima partnering with NASA, it looks pretty cool and could appeal to fans of either party. The Space Ludens watch will be released in limited quantities on September 27. Only 600 pieces will be available for purchase, and 100 of them will ship with a skull mask based on the featured image in the Kojima Productions logo. Anicorn has yet to reveal how much it will cost, but its previous NASA watches aren’t cheap and will set you back more than $1,000.
