Naomi Campbell is banned from being a charity commissioner in England and Wales

Famous people have gone through it this year, especially with the legal system. Naomi Campbell is the newest one on the chopping block across the pond. AP report that England and Wales have temporarily banned the supermodel from being a trustee of her own charity, Fashion for relief.

A three-year investigation into the charity’s finances uncovered mismanagement of money. The Charity Commissioners spoke about the case on Thursday (September 26), confirming they had found “multiple instances of misconduct and/or mismanagement”. “Mismanaged” funds include donations from celebrity events. According to the AP, only 8.5% of Fashion for Relief’s money was spent on charitable grants “over the six-year period since 2016.”

What’s going on with Naomi Campbell and her charity role?

As mentioned, the mandate ban is temporary and will last 5 years. Campbell isn’t the only trustee in trouble. Entrusted comrades Bianka Hellmich And Chau Veronica Disqualified for nine and four years, respectively.

The investigation first began in 2021. It was eventually discovered that charity money was spent on Naomi Campbell’s spa treatments, hotel stays in Cannes, France, room service and cigarette. Fashion for Relief’s administration claimed that hotel stays were covered by sponsors, but no evidence was presented to prove that. According to reports, this amounts to thousands of pounds (the UK’s standard currency).

Meanwhile, banned trustee Hellmich is said to have collected £290,000 (about $385,000) in consulting fees, which charity policy prohibits. An investigations and standards director said trustees did not act in the charity’s best interests and failed to comply with their legal obligations.

What’s next?

While the Fashion for Relief website is still active, the charity folded earlier this year. Naomi Campbell founded the company in 2005 with a mission to alleviate poverty and promote health and education. The company’s website says it has raised more than $15 million worldwide in nearly 20 years.

The Charity Commission revealed that it had recovered around $460,000 in mismanaged funds. Another $98,000 is protected, according to the AP. The money is being used to pay off outstanding debts and donate to “two other charities.”

Naomi has not publicly commented on this news. On September 26, she appeared in a stunning black and white striped dress with straight curves at an awards show during Paris Fashion Week.
