NAMX HUV launched by Pininfarina is a hydrogen fuel cell SUV
A new hydrogen fuel cell electric SUV will appear at this year’s Paris Motor Show, designed by renowned Italian designer Pininfarina. Called the NAMX HUV, the new version features a unique removable fuel compartment system.
With stakeholders from across Africa and Europe, NAMX calls itself “Europe’s technological and industrial venture” and aims to accelerate the development of hydrogen fuel cell car with HUVs. The car is a standout coupe–SUV will be developed in 2023 and two versions will be made available on sale at the end of 2025.
The cheapest HUV will use a 296bhp electric motor to drive the rear wheels, allowing a 0-62mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 124mph. It will cost around €65,000 (about £55,000), but for more performance, buyers will be able to opt for an all-wheel-drive GTH version with 542bhp. This hits 62mph in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph. The GTH will offer a €30,000 premium over the base model.
The HUV will use a patented bulk-fuel pellet system, and although NAMX doesn’t detail exactly how it works, the innovation aims to make “hydrogen fuel ubiquitous”. widely”. The tanks are mounted at the rear of the vehicle and can be swapped out in minutes, with a home delivery service of fuel pellets in the pipeline.
The HUV is an angular machine, with a coupe-esque sloping roofline and NAMX’s “X” logo appearing on the front grille and embossed along the flanks. There’s an LED light bar on top of the car, extending to the signature X-shaped running lights around the perimeter of the grille.
