Our Mims Retirement Haven in Paris, Ky., mourns the passing of a 29-year-old young man My heart has “Saucey”, who left this earth on February 6 due to illness of old age.
Saucey raced 42 times with 14 wins, 6 seconds and 9 third places, winning a total of $291,757. Her most notable win was in the 1999 Late Bloomer Stakes. During her mating career, she produced nine ponies by stallions any mare would want, such as twisted humor Great again, and Child dropping lemon .
My Heart Sez Yes arrived at The Haven on September 19, 2019. She was put on our waitlist by longtime riding lady, Stacy Ferris, and when there was grand opening, Saucey was put on from Florida and welcome home.
Stacy met Saucey when she became her groom and a relationship was formed. Stacy continued to pursue Saucey’s career even as life divided them. As the years passed, she did her best to keep up with Saucey’s position. Stacy was given the chance to make Saucey her own, but Florida’s climate wasn’t ideal for Saucey, and Stacy knew a colder climate would suit her better.
Saucey is most of the time quite quiet and well behaved. But that was not always her attitude. In her racing days, she always had a bit of guts about herself. She likes to circle around in paddles on two feet and she likes to kick her heels up high. But the paddle isn’t the only place where she’s brave – she likes to try to knock out her rider at the gate, in the gate, or get close to the winner’s circle. Her attitude is what has helped her succeed on the track.
Ann Cheek, Vice President of OMRH noted, “Saucey was a wonderful woman and a tough person as well. I will certainly miss her antics and her presence here. Nothing like nothing. It was easy to lose one of our women, but I take comfort in knowing their spirit will always live here. all the horses in Haven receive.”
After being cremated, Saucey will be laid to rest at the farm’s Invincible Cemetery.
