back studio Mutant Year Zero: Road To Eden – The Bearded Ladies – announced the release date for their next game: May 23. miasma chronicles is another post-apocalyptic tactical RPG, but this time it replaces humanoid pigs with a friendly cyborg – who the trailer calls your brother, I should add. More mentally than biologically, of course. If you haven’t sold it yet, the Mirage Chronicles will appear in the Future Game Show tomorrow.
So if you’re not running around with the mutant Donald Duck, what’s the premise of this one? Well, in the not too distant future, in a ruined America, an evil force known only as Miasma has messed everything up and probably killed a lot of people. Mirage is just a sticky greasy ethereal substance, but it has resulted in an environmental collapse that plagues the game’s inhabitants – although it does make for some stunning scenery for us to explore.
We play Elvis (not that person) and his aforementioned mechanic on their quest to find their mother, all using the Mirage control gauntlet she blessed us with , as well as a Badass Lady TM named Jade, and a head in a jar. Of course, your gang can’t just fight warped goo for the entire duration of the game, so the Miasma Chronicles has some Gears Of War-style brute force crawling out of the ground and looking like frogs at certain angles. There will probably be a bunch of mutants here after all.
Apart from all that, Miasma has everything you would expect from The Bearded Ladies. You’ll go for a walk in real time, before engaging in an XCOM-style turn-based battle unlike that in Mutant Year Zero.
RPS Treehouse has enjoyed both previous games of The Bearded Ladies. Their breakout hit Mutant Year Zero makes our list Best strategy game to play on PC. Their sequel is 2020 Corruption 2029, which is also a post-apocalyptic tactical RPG set in the US. If it doesn’t break, I guess? In her reviewSin calls it “Mutant Year Zero without mutants” and I’ll be interested to see if Mirage Chronicles can say the same.
Mimic Chronicles will be released on Steam And Epic game store on May 23. It will also arrive on Xbox and PlayStation consoles on the same day, with a physical console release in June.
