High hopes when Must be money (Payer) started Wednesday for the first time for coach Paul McGee. The betting public agreed, sending the pony flying down the favorites slot 3-2 as the pitch loaded into the gate at Churchill Downs. But, when the pegs opened and the pitch disappeared, Must Be the Money was caught by foot and quickly found himself in chase mode at the back of the herd. Capable of crossing the field to finish fifth outside at the top of the stretch, he regrouped the widest and, despite his efforts to scoot down the lane, overcame the leading pair in the final sixteenth game to clear win.
Speaking to Paul Lo Duca after the race, winning coach Paul McGee admitted, “Oh sure [I was nervous] (referring to break time). He was phenomenally good from the gate so I literally threw me around when he walked away like that. It was a bad start but he certainly made up for it late in the race. “
GI TVG.com’s son Haskell S. wins Payer, Must Be the Money races for owner Silverton Hill LLC and is the first winner and second pony out of the mares Congratulations Spider Walkin, she’s half sister to GSP Bizwhacks (Fed Biz). Just KEESEP US$50,000 last year, he has now made more money from his purchase price in just his first startup.
“Beside Payer, he should stretch out,” McGee continued. “And we hope good things come.”
In a message to TDN, McGee confirmed Must Be the Money’s next move.
“Possibly a subsidy race at Keeneland or Churchill’s November meeting. [We’ll] stretch him out. “
