Muslim man arrested under anti-conversion law in Karnataka

A Muslim man has been arrested and sent to judicial supervision under the recently enacted Karnataka’s Protection of Religious Freedom Act, for ‘converting a woman on the pretext of marrying her. .’

According to Deputy Chief of Police of North Bengaluru Division, Vinayak Patil, the case has been registered against Syed Mueen following a complaint filed by the woman’s mother.

A missing case was registered on 6 October following a complaint filed by the 18-year-old girl’s mother the day before.

The man and woman were then questioned at the police station on October 8.

The woman’s mother again complained on Thursday night that her daughter had been converted to another religion by Syed Mueen under the pretext of marrying her.

Accordingly, a case was registered under section 5 of the Act for the Protection of Religious Freedom in Karnataka and the accused was arrested and taken to the judicial house, Mr. Patil told reporters.

According to the complainant, the conversion took place at Penukonda in Andhra Pradesh, he added.

Under the Act, any person harmed, parent, brother, sister or any other person, related by blood, marriage or adoption can file an Initial Information Report. regarding such conversion, which is contrary to the provisions of section-3. Anyone who violates the regulations will be sentenced to prison in accordance with the law.
