Murphy confirmed to ride Boughey’s Missing The Cut On Saudi Cup Card

Oisin Murphy: coming back after a 14-month suspension | PA . communication

Jockey Oisin Murphy will have a class horse to look forward to when his 14-month suspension ends on February 16 with trainer George Boughey confirming that Missed The Cut (Quality Sugar), in the tilt at the G3 Neom Turf Cup in Saudi Arabia on February 25, which will be teamed up by the Irish man.

Murphy was banned for violating Covid rules, misleading regulators and damaging conduct, plus two alcohol violations.

However, Boughey has explained that the racer busy with preparations for his Royal Ascot scorer has missed The Cut behind the scenes in recent weeks, with the Newmarket moderator hoping Murphy has can develop a good relationship with the pony this season.

“Oisin Murphy will ride him,” Boughey said Monday. “It has used quite a bit of gray matter so far in his career, he has had several jockeys and I think a horse like him probably deserves a jockey who will try. ride him wherever possible.

“I had a long conversation with Oisin late last year when we were trying to come up with a plan for him. Traditionally, William Buick and Ryan Moore would ride mine whenever they could but I think, in their own admission, they won’t be able to ride him next summer.

“They’re willing to ride it in Saudi Arabia but we’re just prolonging the inevitable and I wanted someone who could make a bond with the horse.”

Murphy rode Missed The Cut at home and galloped in a racecourse in Chelmsford in a newly formed alliance between trainer and jockey.

Boughey added, “He did a lot of work, he went to Chelmsford to ride him the previous morning and he was very happy with him. It’s a bit of a new thing, Oisin has only ridden one winner for me so it’s not really a relationship with much progress so far.

“He is clearly a great racer and I am delighted to have him on board. He rode in Newmarket and he went to Chelmsford the other morning, his work is quite good and there are few people better than Oisin to know what a fine horse looks like.”
