Mumbai police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly trying to kill his BPO employee girlfriend by pushing her out of the water tank of a residential building on the outskirts of Dahisar after an argument caused her seriously injured, an official said. Friday.

The incident happened at dawn on Sunday at the building where one of the defendant’s friends lived, he said.

The victim, Priyangi Singh, fell 18 feet from the water tank located on the rooftop of the 15th-floor building, Dahisar police station official said.

“According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, the defendant was in a drunken state and had an argument with Priyangi while they were sitting on the water tank. He then pushed her out of the tank in a fit of rage,” he said. . .

She suffered a severe spinal injury and underwent surgery at a hospital there, the official said.

The defendant is a resident of Borivali (West) and also an employee of the BPO, while the victim resides in Malad with her family.

Police summoned the defendant’s friend to record his testimony, the official said.

“We are gathering information on the general vehicles that the defendant rented to take Priyangi to his Borivli apartment after the incident and then to her Malad home around 8am,” he said. .

Police are examining the building’s CCTV footage as it is unclear exactly what happened at the time of the incident, he said.

The accused and the victim have known each other since school. Defendant joined a BPO company three months ago. They often quarreled, but this time it was worse, the official said.

The police have registered the case against the defendant under section 307 (attempted murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was taken to local court on Thursday, where he was detained by police for five days, he said.
