Mumbai Man Thought ‘Djinn’ Was Stealing Gold. Thief Turned Out To Be…
Mumbai:
Initially, a businessman in Mumbai was puzzled when he noticed several gold ornaments missing from his home in February. Many pieces of jewelry went missing for the next few months, but he avoided filing a police report. He thinks it’s a “djinn’s job”.
He eventually filed a police complaint in September after a huge sum of cash was also stolen along with jewelry. “Djinn don’t steal cash,” businessman Abdulkader Shabbir Ghoghawala told Byculla police. At that time, gold and cash worth more than Rs 40 lakh was stolen from his house.
The police, who suspected the case was an inside job, acted quickly and tracked down the suspect within a day. It turned out to be the man’s 12-year-old niece.
During the investigation, she revealed that her cousin, who was from Surat in Gujarat, asked her to steal from his uncle’s house. Following her revelation, the police arrested the cousin and his two friends after the investigation linked them to the case.
Police also recovered some stolen items worth Rs 40.18 lakh from their possession.
No action has been taken against the girl so far, police said, adding a detailed report to the Juvenile Justice Committee will be submitted once her role in the case is determined.
