The airline said that an IndiGo flight bound for the city from Bangkok was diverted to Rangoon (Yangon) in Myanmar due to an on-board medical emergency on Sunday.

However, “on arrival,” the passenger was declared dead by the “airport medical team,” IndiGo said in a statement today.

“IndiGo Flight 6E-57, operating from Bangkok to Mumbai has been diverted to Rangoon due to an on-board medical emergency. Unfortunately, upon arrival, the passenger was escorted by the airport medical team. declared dead,” the airline said in a brief statement.

However, IndiGo did not disclose other details.

This is the second incident where an IndiGo passenger fell ill mid-air on a flight and later died.

Earlier on March 17, a Ranchi-Pune IndiGo flight had to be diverted to Nagpur airport after a passenger received a medical emergency. The passenger was taken to hospital on arrival, where he was pronounced dead.
