Multiple avalanches reported in Jammu and Kashmir after heavy snowfall, no deaths reported so far | India News
NEW DELHI: Avalanches were reported on Saturday in the Bandipora and Sonmarg districts of Jammu and Kashmir, which have seen moderate to heavy snowfall over the past few days. The avalanche at Sonamarg was the second to hit the county in two days.
Officials said no casualties or property damage have been reported so far in the latest avalanches.
Earlier the same day, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) issued a ‘high danger’ avalanche warning for Kupwara district in northern Kashmir and a ‘moderate danger’ warning for Bandipora, Baramulla , Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban and Reasi . Districts
Officials said the avalanche in Bandipora hit the village of Jurniyal in the Gurez region on Saturday afternoon.

Officials said the avalanche in Bandipora hit the village of Jurniyal in the Gurez region on Saturday afternoon.
“High hazard landslide is likely to occur above 2,000m in Kupwara district in next 24 hours. Medium hazard landslide is likely to occur at 2,000m altitude on Bandipora, Baramulla , Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban and Reasi counties over the next 24 hours,” SDMA officials said.
They said low-hazard avalanches were likely to occur at altitudes above 2,000 meters over Anantnag, Kulgam and Rajouri counties in the next 24 hours. People have been advised to take precautions and avoid venturing into avalanche-prone areas.
Two workers from Kishtwar were killed on Thursday when an avalanche hit the work area of a construction company in Sonmarg, Ganderbal district.
