Motorola Edge 30 Fusion has been launched in India with a single storage configuration. The only variant of the phone is priced at Rs. 42,999 and comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. We’d love to see a 256GB storage option because there’s no microSD card slot. The company offers at least two color options – Cosmic Gray and Sun Gold.

Customers can get the phone for less than Rs. 39,999 in time Flipkart Big Billion Days Sale. In addition, customers can enjoy 10% discount on credit cards of ICICI Bank and Axis Bank.

Design of Motorola Edge 30 Fusion

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is one of the best smartphones in its class when it comes to feeling great in the hand. The edges of the screen and the glass back curve into the aluminum frame, giving the phone a premium look. For a phone built with premium materials and a 4400mAh battery, the Edge 30 Fusion is quite light at just 179g. It is also thin at just 7.45mm, making it one of the thinnest premium smartphones in India.

Motorola sent us the Edge 30 Fusion’s Cosmic Gray color, which looks premium even from a distance. For those who want more flashy colors, there’s the Solar Gold option. The rear glass has a matte texture, which helps to save fingerprints and smudges. The phone is also rated IP52 for some basic protection against water and dust.

There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack, but the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion offers a stereo speaker setup. The main speaker grille is flanked by the USB Type-C port and the SIM tray at the bottom, while the earpiece above the screen serves as an auxiliary socket for stereo sound. The power and volume buttons on the right side are easy to reach and give good feedback.

On the front of the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion, there is a tall 6.55-inch pOLED display with full-HD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. The display is great for content consumption, thanks to its vivid colors and thin bezels. There is a cut-out at the top for the front camera. While using the phone outdoors, I didn’t face any legibility issues as the display supports a maximum brightness of up to 1100 nits.

Motorola Edge 30 Fusion Specifications and Software

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ SoC, based on the 5nm process. The phone also packs a 4400mAh battery with 68W fast charging support. It also supports 13 5G bands in India, dual standby 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC.

In terms of software, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion runs on Android 12-based MyUX interface right out of the box. It offers an almost classic Android experience with custom Motorola features on top. These include a wide range of Moto gestures, custom backgrounds, personalization options, etc.

The only pre-installed third-party app is Facebook. There are a lot of Motorola and Google apps pre-installed as well. Motorola is promising two major Android updates and three years of security updates for the Edge 30 Fusion.

Motorola Edge 30 Fusion performance and battery life

With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ SoC and 8GB of RAM, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion can handle any task you take on. The phone scored 1160 and 3600 points respectively in Geekbench’s single-core and multi-core tests. In AnTuTu, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion scored 844,978 points. I also ran AnTuTu Stress Test loading all CPU cores and found that even after 15 minutes the SoC was running at 100% power, showing no throttling. Just after the end of 45 minutes of running, the performance output dropped to 80 percent.

The phone’s temperature also rose as high as 45 degrees Celsius during the test. Most real-world use cases would never tax the SoC in such a brutal way, but it’s nice to know that the Edge 30 Fusion can deliver sustained peak performance for an appropriate amount of time. case, before it decelerates.

During daily use, the performance of the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is quite smooth. I played some casual and popular battle royale games on Edge 30 Fusion. Call of Duty: Mobile and Asphalt 9 Legends run on Medium to High settings. After about 30 minutes of playing the game, the phone got a little warm. Unlike some other Snapdragon 888+ phones, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion doesn’t heat up much, and while it does get hot, it’s not too alarming.

The device throttles the SoC slightly as temperatures rise, but I didn’t notice any impact on overall performance. The Edge 30 Fusion matches the Dolby Atmos branding at the top of the frame, as the dual speakers deliver rich sound. There’s also no distortion at full volume.

Motorola Edge 30 Fusion battery life will vary depending on your use case. On days when I played a lot of AAA games with the brightness set to around 80 percent, the phone was able to last for about five hours and a few minutes, before it had to be charged. On days of lesser usage, including basic web browsing, scrolling through social media, and more, the Edge 30 Fusion passed the six-hour screen-on time (SoT) mark. In our battery loop test, the phone lasted about 13 hours and 40 minutes, which is slightly below average. On the charging front, the phone takes about an hour to charge from 0 to 100% with the included 68W fast charger.

For biometrics, there’s AI face unlock and an in-display fingerprint reader. The latter worked fine and was quick to authenticate and unlock the phone. However, the scanner is placed too low in the screen for my liking.

Camera Motorola Edge 30 Fusion

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion has some good hardware in this price range that should deliver an almost snappy camera experience. I say close because there is no telephoto camera. The phone has a 50-megapixel main camera with f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera with autofocus, allowing it to take macro shots. There is also a 2-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies, the phone comes with a 32-megapixel front camera.

The main camera’s daylight performance is quite good with stills. Photos are quite sharp and have good detail. HDR performance is also very good as it doesn’t blow out highlights in order to retain details in shadows. While color accuracy is generally good, the main camera distorts skin tones. You can get whiter skin tones or take portraits with a hint of red on the subject’s face. I hope this gets resolved in a future update.

In low light, the main camera produces good details in the shadows along with the exposure. I love how the camera’s algorithm doesn’t make the night sky look artificially blue, which has happened with other smartphones. In extremely low light, the algorithm aims to expose the shadows well but is noisy.

The ultra-wide camera performs well, but there is distortion around the edges of the frame. The color temperature is also a bit cooler than the main camera. Macro shots from this camera look good, and if you can focus correctly, the output will be much better than most other dedicated 2-megapixel macro cameras.

Selfies taken with the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion are detailed and look good but again, the software often distorts skin tones. Portrait mode photos look good, and the phone does a great job with edge detection.

In terms of video, the main rear camera can shoot up to 8K 30fps. It produces good colors and decent dynamic range performance. The ultra-wide camera can shoot up to 4K 30fps and produces good colors but the dynamic range isn’t on par with the main camera. You can also record video at up to 4K 30fps with the front camera, and while the dynamic range isn’t the best, the overall quality is above average.

Identify

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is a pretty decent product that looks stylish and has good features. The phone has high-end hardware and offers a great user experience. While design is a subjective area, I quite like it and I feel others will agree. The camera offers good performance but it needs a bit of software tweaking to do its fair share of hardware. Also, while the phone can record up to 8K video, the internal storage is limited to just 128GB, so there will be a higher storage option.

Edge 30 Fusion is also a bit expensive at Rs. 42,999 compared to most other phones with Snapdragon 888+ SoCs. In fact, its premium sibling, the Motorola Edge 30 Pro, is being sold for the same price at the time of publishing this review (otherwise Rs 44,999). The Edge 30 Pro comes with a more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, wireless charging, and a better set of cameras, making it a much better deal than the Edge 30 Fusion. However, if you want a slimmer design with a sturdier aluminum frame, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion is a better choice.

There is stiff competition in this segment from companies like iQOO 9 5G, Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G (Review), OnePlus 10R and Realme GT Neo 3. While these phones offer great hardware for the price, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion upgrades them with a clean and feature-rich user experience.
