Monster Hunter Rise kicked off the Capcom Showcase today, with new locations for hunters to explore on full screen, plus more monsters to join the fray when the expansion releases. A demo will also be available starting tomorrow.
The first is the return of the Jungle area from the second generation of Monster Hunter, which has been completely remade for Sunbreak. While the Jungle sounds like it would be filled with trees and other foliage, it’s on the coast and has plenty of sandy beaches and ruins to explore.
As for new monsters to hunt, Sunbreak has plenty of exciting new objectives to take on. Espinas return from Monster Hunter Frontiers. True to its name (“espinas” is Spanish for thorns), this creature is covered with sharp spines that will easily cut off hunters with its bad side. The trailer describes Espinas as a monster that “prefers a quiet and peaceful life”, but it has a dual nature and can easily fly into rage when disturbed.
Gore Magala, the top terrorist from Monster Hunter 4, is also back and will surely punish a lot of hunters in the High Rated quests. This monster has no vision and uses its sensitive wing membranes to find prey or track down anyone who opposes it. When it goes crazy, Gore Magala transforms, with two monstrous horns appearing on his head, making it a nice themed pairing with Sunrise Malzeno’s flagship monster. Two other variations of the existing Sunbreak monster were shown in today’s footage, Daimyo Hermitaur from Monster Hunter 2 and Pyre Rakna-Kadaki, a flaming version of Rise’s arch-enemy.
The demo for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is out tomorrow on both Switch and PC. The free trial will include a new Forest area to explore and players will be able to hunt the announced ones. Astalos and Malzeno. For experienced hunters, the demo will provide an opportunity to try out the new Skill Swap mechanism and new Silkbind attacks. Up to four players can join the hunts together online, and there is no limit to how many times you can play through the hunts in the demo version.
Last but not least, Capcom detailed its post-launch content update roadmap and let us know what’s coming in the first major patch. Lucent Nargacuga will be the star of the first update in August and will be taking on a new hunting area, the Foremorn Arena, as well as even more monsters. Fall and winter updates are planned with the injection of new monster types and variants in 2023.
Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak has only been out for a couple of weeks and will launch on Switch and PC on June 30. Remember, it’s an expansion to the existing Monster Hunter Rise, so players who want to check out the content of the game. Sunbreak will have to complete the required main story. quests from the base game to reach new areas and monsters.
