Missing woman Cricketer, 26 years old, found dead in Odisha forest

Rajashree Swain, a 26-year-old female cricketer from Odisha, was found hanging from a tree in a dense forest in Cuttack district on Friday, police said.

She has been missing since January 11.

Her scooter was found abandoned near the woods.

“An unusual case of death has been recorded in this matter. We found her body hanging from a tree in the Gurudijhatia forest in the Athagarh area. We will investigate the death from all angles.” Deputy Commissioner of Police Pinak Mishra said.

Swain’s cause of death will be clarified after the autopsy report, Mishra said.

The cricketer from Puri district came here to attend the training camp organized by the Odisha Cricket Association for the upcoming national tournament in Puducherry.

However, Swain failed to win a spot on the 16-member team selected for the tournament.

Swain’s roommate said: ‘She was seen crying on Wednesday night after the names of the team members were announced and disappeared from the hotel where we had all been in practice. after that”.

Coach Pushpanjali Banerjee filed a complaint about his disappearance at the local Mangalabag police station in Cuttack city, after being unable to contact Swain by phone.

Her family members allege that Swain, a right-armed fast pitcher and a middleweight hitter, was murdered “because of her multiple injuries and her eyes. broken”.

They also stated that Swain was denied a spot on the team despite performing better than many of the others who were picked.

Subrat Behera, the association’s CEO, said the selection was made in a very transparent manner, expressing shock at the cricketer’s passing.

Behera added: “If there is a bias, how did she find a spot on the possibly 25-member team that joined the camp,” Behera added.
