Police are searching for a missing couple and their newborn child who believe the whole family is sleeping in a tent in sub-zero temperatures.
Officers have been trying to locate Constance Marten, 35, and Mark Gordon, 48, since their car broke down on the M61 near Bolton on January 5.
Police say two days later they went to an Argos store in Whitechapel, east London, to buy camping gear.
They say Mr. Gordon went alone and bought two large bags, including a blue tent for two, a sleeping bag and two pillows.
The family was last seen walking along Brick Lane, towards Bethnal Green Road around 10pm.
Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford said: “We are extremely concerned that a newborn baby – less than a week old on 7 January – has been exposed to sub-freezing cold temperatures if Mark and Constance had been go camping somewhere as our proof shows..
“No child, especially a tiny infant, should be forced to endure such dangerous, potentially life-threatening conditions.
“This is why it’s extremely important that anyone with information about a child’s whereabouts contact us as an urgent matter – whether it’s with a recent sighting or an old one. All the information is very important so we can find the baby and make sure it is OK.
“My officers will continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes to gather information about the family’s movements and current whereabouts. Maybe they’re trying to fit in with homeless communities. , here, in London or beyond, or they may be camping in more rural or wooded areas.
“They can be anywhere in the country. Pay close attention, especially when you’re out and about in wastelands or beautiful spots, or when you’re walking your dog, and report any information, no matter how trivial you think it is.” it is, for us.”
