Millionaire Lone Rock Works aims to launch in 2023
Millionaire and route expert lone stone continues to move towards his 2023 debut after working five runs for 1:02.40 Feb 12 at Oaklawn Park for coach Robertino Diodoro.
Sunday’s job is the fourth job in the last 21 days in Oaklawn for Lone Rock, who returned to Diodoro’s barn in early January.
The 8-year-old gelding boy hasn’t been beaten since finishing third in the Birdstone Stakes last July at Racecourse Saratoga. Diodoro said Lone Rock could show up again later in the Oaklawn meeting, possibly $150,000 in Temperence Hill shares for older horses at 1 1/2 miles on April 2. runner-up in Temperence Hill in 2021 and won last year’s race.
“Do one thing at a time,” Diodoro said.
Lone Rock resumed light training late last year in Florida after a long break from Birdstone.
“What I like is that he doesn’t have to play because of injury,” Diodoro said. “He was eliminated because we thought he was tired and deserved a break. Hopefully, he’ll come back well.”
Lone Rock has flourished at marathon distances since Diodoro reclaimed gelding for $40,000 in November 2020 at Churchill Downs. Majestic Warrior’s son shows a 16-5-3 record from 42 starts in his life and earns $1,412,541 to the owners of Flying P Stable, RA Hill Stable and Flying P Partners.
