Mike Tyson Explains How Canelo Can Beat Bivol

Via Sean Jones: Mike Tyson believes that the main reason for Canelo Alvarez’s defeat to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol last Saturday night was his failure to use his shot as he advanced.

Tyson felt that if Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) used his shot effectively, then Bivol would have to hesitate to launch his coordinated punches.

Indeed, Canelo shows no interest in throwing kicks, which is nothing new for him. He is have many bad habits over the past four years, battling flawed champions like Rocky Fielding, Billy Joe Saunders, Caleb Plant, Danny Jacobs, Callum Smith and Sergey Kovalev.

Like what we’ve seen in Canelo’s recent games, he lunges forward, delivers powerful punches and relies on his ability to score after the knockout with Bivol.

You could argue that Canelo’s technical boxing skills have declined rapidly since his rematch with Gennady Golvokin in 2018.

Facing weak paper champions made Canelo sloppy & lazychooses to ignore his jabs in favor of the crowd, and the power hits please the reviewer.

“If Canelo uses his jab effectively, hard, man [Dmitry Bivol] Mike Tyson spoke on social media about how Canelo was able to beat Bivol.

Canelo’s lack of reach is one reason he might choose not to throw in as Bivol has done a great job of moving out of reach.

The sloppy defense we’ve seen Gennadiy Golovkin In his two battles with Canelo, we don’t see Bivol.

When Bivol was hit by one of Canelo’s hard hits, he remained calm and didn’t react with the fear or confusion that might have kept Golovkin back. Bivol stuck to his battle plan and methodically defeated Canelo.

“So he became more aggressive and braver,” Tyson said of Bivol. “If you don’t rush in, he has no defense. If he didn’t rush in, the guy would go right into him like he did.

“In the next fight, use your stab, another fight. When he rushes in, Canelo should move and miss the jab for the final top lane. If he misses the stab, he will not throw the coordinated throw.

“I believe if he used his stab it would be a different fight,” Tyson said.

Coach Joel Diaz said: “Canelo’s punches won’t hurt Bivol as long as he blocks them. Behind the gloves. “He [Canelo] was getting tired and was throwing one and two forehands, left hooks, and Dmitry was in control.

“It’s a difference in size. His manager and his team, everyone will have a plan for his next move. Dmitry Bivol can fight anyone at the age of 175 because he has strength; he has confidence.

“Now that he has beaten the best boxer at the moment, in Canelo Alvarez, his confidence is high. Diaz said.
