Microsoft checks Windows VPN notifications, updates taskbar search

Microsoft is rethinking how the search functions work in the Windows 11 taskbar, while users may also soon get a small shield icon in the taskbar’s system tray to indicate when the PC is back up. connect to the VPN.

In Windows 11 build 25252 has been released to Dev Channel, Microsoft is testing different ways to display search on the taskbar. An example is drawn live on Windows 10 and provides a search box that the user can type in, with the results displayed in a separate window. The other is a pill-shaped ‘search button’ that opens a window where text can be entered. There is also a smaller search icon that opens a new window for searching and an option to ‘hide’ when there is no box or icon in the taskbar and the user will press the Windows icon to open the Getting Started page. at the top, this page has a search box at the top.

Microsoft is seeking feedback on how to display search on the taskbar. Testers can do so in the Feedback Hub.

This build includes a new VPN status icon, a small shield icon, overlaid on the active network connection icon. It is meant to give the user a visible icon of the VPN status, which can be useful in the event that the VPN connection to a personal or work VPN application is dropped.

Not all features shown in the Developer Channel will appear on the Beta channel or major versions of Windows 11.

Microsoft has included fixes in this build to address various glitches. Two new known issues Widgets may be missing for some Windows Insiders, causing explorer.exe to crash again after upgrade. Users can install additional Widgets if missing. Alternatively, the user can rollback the build.

Additionally, there was an issue in Build 25247+ that prevented some Insiders from viewing some secondary drives, including other PCI devices. Microsoft says it’s working on a fix.

Microsoft has also Released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.1020 and Build 22623.1020 (KB5020035) into the Beta Channel.

Build 22623.1020 includes new features implemented, while build 22621.1020 disables new features by default.

There are fixes available for both builds. Microsoft has combined Windows Spotlight with Themes on the Personalization page. It also gives users full storage on all OneDrive subscriptions and now shows total storage on the Accounts page in the Settings app.

These builds also include OneDrive storage warnings when users are nearing their storage limit. These warnings appear on the System page in the Settings app.
