Michigan director denies rumors of providing trash cans for students
A Michigan superintendent says rumors that a school district places trash cans on school grounds for students to identify as furs used in bathrooms are untrue.
The problem first came to light at a December 20 school board meeting for Midland Public Schools, about 100 miles northwest of Detroit. At the meeting, parent Lisa Hansen said she was “very upset” and “angry” to learn from someone that a trash can had been added to the bathroom.
“I heard that at least one of the schools in our town, in one of the bathrooms for both boys and girls, has a litter box for kids who have been identified as cats,” says Hansen. , and I’m really worried about that.” “I’m all for creativity and imagination, but when someone lives in a fantasy world and expects someone else to go with it, I have a problem with that.”
Hansen added that this is an “agenda” that is driven “nationwide.”
Hansen’s statement about the trash was shared in a Facebook group, then shared by Michigan Republican Co-Chair Meshawn Maddock on Thursday. She wrote, “Hero parents will BACK to our schools.”
Michael Sharrow, superintendent of Midland Public Schools, later took to Facebook the same day to address the rumor, stressing that trash cans have never been in any school in the district.
“It’s been such a source of frustration that I feel the need to convey this message to you,” Sharrow said. “In the divided/controversial world we now find ourselves in, I ask that if you hear extravagant accusations that don’t sound like something the Board of Education, Administration, Learning your Midland Public School district will participate.”
Sharrow added: “Let me be clear in this exchange. There is no truth to this false claim/allegation! There has never been a trash can in MPS schools.”
“Feathers” are people who “have a hobby or even dress up as anthropomorphized animal characters, like those commonly found in comic books, games, and cartoons” according to Merriam-Webster.
People may dress simply with animal ears, tails, or shirts, while others will wear more elaborate attire. Some will also create a “feather”, where people choose how they will dress and give them “distinctive personalities, histories, relationships and attitudes”, according to Furscience.
Created by a team of scientists “studying the fur fandom”, Furscience says there is a lot of stigma surrounding feathers, as it is portrayed as a deviant sexual fetish and lifestyle, often causing many fear in the community. violent discrimination.
“If fandom is about anything, it’s about friendship and community, which causes the mainstream media to reduce the fandom to a fetish and imprecise insult clearly and unequivocally. “, the group stated.
