Michael Penix Jr. lands four hits as Washington stuns No.11 Michigan State, 39-28


Washington Huskies Starting winger Michael Penix Jr was on a show Saturday with the 11th-placed Michigan State Spartans.

The junior finished 24/40 for 397 yards and four touchdowns, giving the Huskies the lead 39-28 nasty win over Michigan State.

Penix started his standout performance with an 8-yard hook from Ja’Lynn Polk, giving Washington a 7-0 lead.

With the Huskies leading 16-0 in the second half, Penix hit the second touchdown of the half, finding Wayne Taulapapa at 18 yards.

After a touchdown at Michigan State reduced the Huskies’ lead to 14, Penix responded before half-time. With just four seconds remaining in the opening half, Penix connected again with Polk, this time from 17 yards, giving Washington a 29-8 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Penix and Polk decided to pick up where they left off in the first round. Michigan State opened the first half with a touch of the ball before Penix and Polk combined 53 yards to help the Huskies regain their 15-point advantage.

Penix brag completion rate of 69.7 for the year, with 682 yards over, six touchdowns and one interception.

Nine different Huskies were captured on Saturday; Jalen McMillian led with seven catches from 94 meters in the win. Along with three touchdowns of the day, Polk finished with six receptions and 153 yards.

Washington’s defense also featured in the victory, holding Michigan State by just 42 yards.

The 3-0 Huskies will go on undefeated when they host Stanford next Saturday.
