Michael Beale: Aston Villa assistant manager set to become new QPR boss | Football news

Michael Beale, Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Aston Villa, is poised to become the new Queens Park Rangers manager.

Gerrard has blessed Beale to leave Villa Park and take his first job as a number one player with the Championship club.

Sky Sports News Villa was always aware of Beale’s desire to build his own coaching career when he and Gerrard were appointed in November.

QPR has been without a manager since Mark Warburton’s contract expired at the end of the season. The club were in automatic promotion in February but have won only three of their last 18 league matches to make it out of the play-offs and finish in 11th place.

Beale, 41, joined Gerrard and Gary McAllister at Rangers in 2018 before they led the club to its first Scottish championship in 10 years.

After ending his playing career at the age of 21, Beale began coaching at Chelsea’s academy, working with Tammy Abraham and Dominic Solanke as they progressed through club levels.

He then accepted an offer to join Liverpool’s academy, starting at Under-16s before becoming manager of Under-23s, where he started his first job alongside Gerrard, who was working with U18 at that time.

In January 2017, Beale moved to Brazilian club Sao Paulo, learning Portuguese to work as assistant to Rogerio Ceni but they were expelled six months later.

Villa are 14th in the Premier League this season after risking relegation when Gerrard was appointed.
