Mets win first post-season stop since 2016
The Mets secured their first stop since 2016 on Monday night with a win over the Brewers.
After falling short of expectations in recent seasons, the Mets are 94-55 and in position for their first 100-win season since 1988.
Citi Field will see the return of baseball in the franchise’s second season under owner Steve Cohen, whose willingness to spend big during the season has paid off with a clincher. Additional free agent Max Scherzer put in a perfect six innings against Milwaukee but was knocked out after 67 throws in his first game since being on the injury list.
The Mets still had to fight to win the NL East, where they led the Braves in one game. With the two teams currently drawing in the losing column, the split could fall on the series between the Mets and the Braves in Atlanta next weekend.
Their last New York appearance after the season was an NL Wild Card Game loss to the Giants in 2016. The Mets made it to the World Series in 2015.
